unit 9 project

                      I.                      Introduction:
Integral health is approaching healing with the mind, body, and spirit. According to Dacher integral health is self-generated and self0cultivated, that leads to a comprehensive, holistic, and far-reaching healing of body, mind, and spirit and that is immune to life’s adversities, including disease, aging, and death (Dacher, 3).  To develop integral health you have to learn how to control your mind in order to obtain the whole approach of integral healing. Dacher explains that the brain talks to the immune system, the heart to the kidneys, the glands to each of our cells and so on, creating in the process a fully interconnected community (Dacher, 17). This is showing how our mind, body, and spirit are connected in one. It is important as healthcare workers to develop psychologically, spiritually, and physically. The psychological aspect helps us to look inside of ourselves and begin to understand ourselves. “Consciousness is the driving force that takes us toward integral health and life” (Dacher, 39). In the readings it showed that people who had a spiritual connection had a better chance of getting better quicker than the people who did not.
As health care workers it is important that we develop the psychological, spiritual, and physical aspect of healing. If we are able to apply these concepts in our lives then we will be able to help other people apply the concepts to their lives.
                   II.                      Assessment:
Assessing yourself is sometimes a hard thing to do because you have to be honest and critical with yourself. I tried to honestly assess myself throughout this course. I have discovered that I still have so work to do on myself. The important this is once you acknowledge the work that has to be done would you be willing to make the effort to make the changes. I have been working on making changes and to try and remain consistent with the changes that I have been making. My spiritual wellness when I started this course was about a 5 and it has increased to about a 7. I may not go to church as much as I should, but I still remain a connection with God and that is where my spiritual healing has come from. My physical score was at a 6 and it is now about an 8. My physical aspect of healing is slowly improving as I try to remain consistent. My psychological aspect was at about a 5 and is now about a 6. I do not really like to look inside myself, this class had made me slowly develop my psychologically aspect of myself.
                III.                      Goal development:
My physical goal for myself is to start to eat better. Even though I try to work out consistently it will not do me any good if I do not develop better eating habits. According to some studies it shows that you are supposed to eat five small meals a day or eat three regular meals with snacks in between.  Psychological goal is to start to make more time for myself so that I can begin to work on training my mind and getting a better understanding of myself. My spiritual goal is become more spiritual by praying more and going to church more. Taking the time each day to read from the Bible or to have a talk with God.
                IV.                      Practices for personal health:
To obtain strategies that would truly foster growth in aspects of your life like spiritual, physical, and psychological you first have to be honest about where you stand and what you are trying to accomplish in each area. As you start your strategy you may adjust your plans so that you can continue to grow. To begin developing myself spiritually I first need to start by attending church more and by being around people who are spiritual so that I can begin to grow spiritually. Another plan for my spiritual growth is to start making the time to read the Bible more and to start to apply the word into my life. It is hard to stay on track of you are not around people who will not support what you are trying to accomplish, so I would make sure that I have people to encourage me and when they see me start to fall of track that they help to lead back to where I need to be. For my physical goal is to become healthy. I would start by developing a workout plan for five days a week that implements different exercises so that I would remain interested, I would participate in exercise classes to help me stay encouraged. My next goal in becoming healthy would be to start eating healthier. I would not go on a diet, but I would look to see what foods are healthy for you to eat and start from there. For my psychological goal it was hard for me to think of my goal. I first need to work on myself mentally. I would start reading self-help books so that I can start to work on myself. I would try to start meditating more so that I can begin to train my mind.
                   V.                      Commitment:
In order to assess your progress you have to maintain a log so that you can see where you started. In creating a log I will be able to see the days that I put forth effort and the days that I did. In keeping a log or journal I will be able to compare what I did differently on the days that I did not participate in the goals that I set for myself. After I have written everything down and the methods I used to obtain my goals, I would reassess myself in six months to see where I stood. I would determine if the plans worked and what areas I was weak in. The plans that did not work I would work on developing another plan. The areas that I was weak in I would think of ways that I could make improvements in those areas.

Unit 8

It is really hard to describe which exercise I liked the most. I have never really been into meditation until I had to continually do it in this class. I have learned over the years that I cannot meditate before I go to sleep because it gives me crazy dreams. If I had to pick two the two that I would pick would be loving kindness and subtle mind. The loving kindness taught you how to spread love to yourself, your loved ones, and also the people that you really didn't love that is what made it a good exercise to me. The subtle mind one helped me to slowly gain control of my wondering mind and try to focus it on what was inside instead of all the things that was going on around me.

Unit 7

Hello everyone. Sorry that I am posting my blog so late. I really had a very busy week. I have been going through classes haven't really had any time off in the past couple weeks. I have been trying to keep up with my two classes for school as well as prepare classes for the military and study for classes that has been given. The internet in this building sucks so I try to do as much work as possible while I have the internet but sometimes I do not get much accomplishe. Enough bout my week. I tried both of the studies, but I think that I will have to try and experience them again when I have more time on my hands. When I was doing the subtle mind or the loving kindness one I would tend to fall asleep in the middle of it. I am not sure if that is because I am tired or that it made me relax that much. One reason why I can not do meditation exercises or anything close to it. I start off well and then I tend to fall asleep or I go into a whole nother world. The Aesclepius I didnt really get a chance to actually sit down and enjoy it because I was always on the move. I listened to it, but I didn't really get a chance to do the exerise to my liking because I couldnt stay still and I couldn't keep my mind still.

Unit 6

For the integral assessment it asks you to explore psychospiritual, biological, interpersonal or wordly aspect of your life and decide which is the source of difficulty and suffering. Explore this concept for a couple days think about what line of development is the most essential for you at the time. Now you have to explore what area of your life is needing development and what can you aim for this is the first aspect of the assessment. What area of your life is ready for growth and development. The second aspect is what would the next level of development look like. This assessment tool can be very useful because it makes you explore yourself and  learn more about yourself. Until you actually take the time to think about it you do not realize that you need growth and development in some areas of your life and if you did know you probably never took the time to explore what areas really needed the most work. This assessment is good to start to apply to my life. The area that I think I may need more growth and development on is my inner self; being more confident and happy with me. I believe that this is a very important thing in my life that needs development. I am a pretty loving person so it was not hard for me to quietly express love to people around me and to people I did not know. I think that it is a good exercise because it is important to show and to give love and kindness to other people.

Unit 4

  1. Describe your experience. Did you find it beneficial? Difficult? Why or why not? Would you recommend this to others? Why or why not? I think that the loving kindness mp3 was really good. I would recommend it to people. It teaches you how to relax and allow you to experience and give love to people you do not like and to people you love. This relaxation technique for loving kindness should probably be done before your day starts and as you develop the technique you can use it during the times when you need it the most.
  2. What is the concept of "mental workout"? What does the research indicate are the proven benefits of a mental workout? How can you implement mental workouts to foster your psychological health? It is not possible to evolve our psychospiritual life and access its capabilities and resources without daily practice (Dacher p. 64). The most meaningful aim of practice is not the rest and relaxation, but rather the progressive development of an expande consciousness and its healing capacities.

unit 3

1.          Based on your reflections, and on a scale of 1 to 10 (ten being optimal wellbeing), where do you rate your A-physical well-being, B-spiritual well-being, C-psychological well-being? Why? physical well being I rate a 7 because I am working towards developing a habit of physically taking care of myself. Psychological well-being a 5 because I am slowly taking the time to figure out what I want and not what other people want for me. Spiritual well-being is to learn how to enjoy life and be free spiritually, to star to pray more and  develop myself from the inside out, I would give myself a 5
2.          Develop a goal for yourself in each area (physical, spiritual, psychological). To stay more physcially active in order to keep my body more healthy. Spiritually to be more in tuned with myself and to focus more on prayer to develop myself. psychologically is to find my way and the direction I want to go.
3.          What activities or exercise can you implement in your life to assist in moving toward each goal? Relaxing more, doing more exercises, trying to stay more in tuned with what I really need, to better understand myself.
4.          Complete the relaxation exercise The Crime of the Century. To hear this exercise, click here. Describe your experience. (What it beneficial? Frustrating? etc.) I think that is was a very relaxing exercise. It helps your body to relax. I use to have a relaxaton tape that I would listen to before I went to sleep but I had to stop because it use to give me bad dreams I guess because my mind was to open.
